What is Peace?

What is Peace?
Finding that light inside yourself that says I love you to everyone and everything you meet. To love deeply all that is. To find the majesty in everything around you. Even in the presence of evil, to understand the love that made it and to see the love that gave it life and to know that love can cure the world of sadness. I stand in the light of Peace and I give the gift of Love. Because you deserve to be loved, no matter who you are or what you have done - I love you. Why? Because you are made from love and with that I am satisfied. I hope and pray my love for you can wash away just one moment of sadness from your life and give you a chance to see the world as it is, a place of life, love and beauty. Remember, even in your darkest hours, I love you, truly, I do.

Rose Petals

My mother named me Rose
I have no petals, no leaves
I do have a cat, I pet all the time
He hangs on the window sill
Baiting squirrels from the eaves

When he gets tired he tends to leave

A name is a mission of great importance
To live up to it is hard, imagine Miss Hortense
I may not be a symbol of love
I give no reason to stop and smell me
But I do have a cat, I pet all the time
He's my companion when I don't have a rhyme

My mother named me Rose and I do just fine
I named my cat Pussy McSnugglebug
I pet him all the time.

A thought

A thought -

Tell me what does the Afghan military uniform look like? The Iranian uniform? What does uniform does a 'terrorist' wear? These are people killing people, why? so people won't be killed somewhere else? What makes us right and them wrong? All of these people dying are children of god and deserve to be here, just like you, and me. War is not the path to peace, it's a path to violence and pain. Evil begets evil. Everyone one of those soldiers has a mother, a son, a sister ... they suffer the deaths of their family just like we do. Where does it end? If we all move to bring down our borders and live as earthlings, instead of citizens, yes we could be one world - one peace. Fighting never solved anything. Loving one another, even though they may have wrong you, is where true wisdom flourishes. We teach school children not to fight on the playground, we should teach our adults the same thing.

Progeny

Progeny

On soft leather shoes that curved at the ankle
Thin pale skin draped the knotted bone
It creaked quietly as the evil bent to stand; somber in the courtroom
Youth had worn off the young man's extremities
Leaving only a veined husk filled to the brim with sorrow

Sadness only expressed through violent hatred
Poured out of his smooth taught skin
Tears; dying embers of a remembered future
Painted the cold blue eyes

His evil was audible as he drew each breath
Solace and safety, thinly bound by his silver chains
The Fellowship of Death was now to commence
At that moment, my ears heard a horrid sound

Evil had a Mother

Her wide shoulders sunk deep into her flesh
A purple wool scarf hung across her thick outline
As if she herself were marked for death
She moaned, close mouthed and quiet

Futility was the platform on which she stood, slumped and forgotten
Shining black 'church shoes' tickled the bottom of her yellow dress
Strong arms of a lifelong factory worker
Clung in desperate hope to a withered black purse

Accepting fate is a fool's term for being at the mercy of ignorant will
With every word spoken of the condemnation she jolted inward
Havoc and anguish were only sheltered by her cheap hat and glasses
The mother of evil stood illuminated, a statue of love for her son

A baby was dying

and god spoke "What you do to the least of my brethren, you do to me"

I give you my heart.

My hands aren't big enough to give you everything you need
These little legs cannot travel as far as you want to go
My ears are not acute enough to hear all that you say
This old back is not strong enough to lift you as high as you deserve

I fail you, every breath in me - I beat the streets and bleed
But I still fail you. You deserve a world I do not know how to give.
Still, I fail. Dreams so large, are to heavy to hold.
Failure, it's not an option. I will be triumphant.

I gather more hands to carry the load.
We invent wheels to get us where we are going.
I am quiet now so I can listen to your plans.
I realize I do not need to carry you aloft,

For you are an angel of love and need nothing more than my heart to carry you aloft to the stars. I know my heart is big enough for all of us, for all of our dreams. Big enough to cradle our souls in times of darkness. My heart is an everspring of love and goodness. I'll give you that, and be satisfied.

I give you my heart.

- I. Love. You -

Love came on a borrowed seat in a broke down car to a broken home.
Love pierced through the muddy windows and shown light in my dark room.
Love wore old clothes made for someone fatter more out of touch.
Love grew like mold on my heart, every effort to clean it off only spread it to other parts of me.
Love told me to wait for him to feel more alive.
My love could not wait, I loved him until the breath returned.
Only true love can revive a corpse.
I'll say as one former dead person to another, my love lives for you, it dies for you, it dreams for you.
In every breath, in every heartbeat, in every wisp of batted eyelash my love springs eternal.
Unabated, unflinching, unwashed
- I. Love. You -

colloquialism poem

This poem gets my dogs barkin'
Haulin' all these words outta my head
I channel Hamlet and harken
Dylan says do not go gently dead

Longfellow's ride is much to Revere
Knowledge is a dangerous thing
Addam's Vogon is simply to severe
See, now I've forgotton what to bring

A poem for those poets who chime in
To participate in perfection practice
And make word mastery begin
Thank you for creating this poetic lattice

Hello, I'm a Tree

Hello, I'm a Tree.
Thank you for visiting me
I'll give you shade
Until the lights fade
Please tell a friend
And start a trend
To join me and have a seat
Shading you will be sweet
Now, we're friends, ain't that great?
So, sit down relax and meditate.

As You Wish

As You Wish

You are the wonder in my eye

the thump in my chest
I've given you all my love
and forsaken all the rest

a precious treasure you hold
Carefully now you tread
Talk softly and walk strong
my courage can make you bold

Strong words hide my delicate soul
Keep it tenderly in your heart
Forever is the goal
Only death could make us part

Death, however, is no barrier to true love, for I carry your heart safely inside of me and I'll never let you go.

Make the world smile

I heard one of the best questions I've ever listened too the other day, a question that might actually change the world..."What, besides writing a check, could we do to change this?"
Well, I don't know what you can do, but I do know what I can do. I'm going to make the world smile, one face at a time. I've made it my business to make smiles happen, to create memories devoid of pain and frustration. Memories emboldened on little pieces of paper that will remind people of a happy day, a happy face, a happy life. In the face of all the tortures of the world I feel, as most do, powerless. A world filled with violence and pain can be soothed just simply with a smile and kind word a hug even. Happiness will not feed the hungry or shelter the forgotten. Happiness will make the pain more endurable and that's what we have to do in this state of change. I feel we as a planet nation are on a precipice of peace. This global peace will not happen overnight and likely we will not be able to measure it with any device conjured by scientists. This peace is internal, eternal and is already here. My only drive is to peel off the fear and anger hiding it, by making those war torn faces smile. One moment of levity in an otherwise burden life can be the catalyst for greater people than myself to do greater things than I can imagine. I say if you want to change the world, change your face - Smile. In the future our children's children can read in books how we started a revolution of happiness. Scholars will wax and wane about who started being happy first, they will call up world leaders of the peace movements and strong people fighting all the odds, but what if it was you? What if you were the first person to smile, the first person to give your love to someone who needed it more than he deserved it. What if it was you that smiled at the right person on the right day and took the anger out of one guarded heart? Call it trite and naive that a smile can change the world, and I shrug my shoulders at you. I say be naive, be trite and common, just fill your days with love, hugs and happiness, fill them so full with it that there is no room for anything else. Fill your life so full of love that it spills out onto those that cannot grasp it for themselves. I say stand up for yourself and everyone on this little rock in the universe, brandish your teeth and scream I am Happy! In spite of everything you want to do to me, I am Happy and I want you to be happy with me, so let us Smile together. Plus if you smile for no reason, soon the reason will show up. Here I am waiting for my reasons to smile more, and when those reasons come and go, my smile will stand firm in the face of all aridity and disenchantment. I smile because the world is a beautiful place and worth being happy for. So Keep Smiling and world will smile with you.
